This is a good post. You’ve identified some critical factors to success.

Here’s another factor to consider. Dr. Kelly Tremblay from the University of Washington suggested that some people have auditory systems that are less plastic, ie., less capable of change. Consider that the average person waits seven years to get hearing aids. In the meantime, the brain re-organizes to account for the fact that some sounds are not heard, so the corresponding part of the brain is not used. So, when people get hearing aids, the brain must change again, and form new pathways. Dr. Tremblay suggested that auditory training is very important for such people. I would add that it is especially important during the trial period.

i notice the following

Siren 150dB
Heavy truck engine ot loudspeaker rock concert 140dB
Machine gun 130dB
Jackhammer 120dB
Excavator, trumpet 115dB

never thought that the sounds can be that high…

Competition in the hearing aids industry has set free hearing test and demonstration as an industry standard. The above mentioned could happen while buying in person but it is highly unlikely in an event where the customers goes to a reputable place in town and they have done minimum research. There is a warranty and service contract that you sign in person and has been explained to you.
